Product Description
The Space Chips Glom Dron Edition is a set of 540 multi-colored pentagon shaped interlocking plastic discs; manipulatives designed to provide boys, girls and even adults with activities of experimentation that stimulate the mind and for developing a higher degree of sensory perception. Space Chips STEM engineering projects are fun, entertaining and engaging, and they encourage students to be creative and to think critically. Collaborative experimentation with Space Chips fosters camaraderie, team building, friendship and trust. Manipulatives give students endless opportunities to safely plan, design, test, try, fail, recommit and ultimately succeed with unlimited projects according to their imagination and fortitude. A simple exercise that begins with connecting these discs into rudimentary geometrical 3 dimensional objects can quickly evolve into much more intricate, sophisticated and satisfying works of art; the kind of engineering design disciplines worthy of MIT standards; from children no less! Why is this Space Chips Edition called Glom Dron? The term Dron is taken from the word hedron; the Greek word for face. A Space Chips Dron is a structure built by only one type of Space Chip, in this case, a pentagon. For example, a “”12 Dron”” is 12 pentagons which make a ball shape. The “”Glom Dron”” is 60 pentagons that make a really huge ball. When you introduce other Space Chips colors, squares and triangle shapes to the Space Chips Glom Dron Edition, configuration possibilities truly are endless, making it the ultimate puzzle and brain exercise for any STEM and STEAM project. This set includes 540 multi colored pentagon shaped durable interlocking plastic discs that connect and separate quick and easy allowing the student to first create simple patterns and then graduate into more advanced designs with time and practice and mastery.
From the Manufacturer
Space Chips are a building tool of 3 different shapes (pentagon, square and triangle). Awards: TDmonthly Top Toy Award, June 2011— Why it won: The pieces are small, flat and flexible, so they won’t break if Mom or Dad accidentally steps on them. Kids can play with the toys they make with the Space Chips— balls are both throwable and kickable. And though they were designed to create traditional building structures, kids have used their imaginations and turned the flat clips into suits of armor and costumes.
